Narahenpita Police have arrested a woman who had arrived to visit a patient at a private hospital in Narahenpita on the 9th wearing a sari printed with the Buddha.
The arrested woman is a 65 year old resident of Mannar. When she arrived at the hospital wearing this sari, the Chief Security Officer of the hospital informed the Narahenpita Police where they arrived and arrested the suspect. The woman had been working as a maid in the house of a doctor in Mannar and has come to visit him who was admitted to a private hospital in Narahenpita.
She had gone to the hospital to see the doctor from the doctor’s daughter’s Wellawatte home the day before yesterday. After the arrest of the suspect, the police had sent a message to the daughter of the doctor residing in Wellawatte and had her bring another sari to the suspect and has taken the sari with the Buddha image into police custody. She has told the police that she does not know that it is forbidden to wear clothes with the image of Buddha. The arrested suspect was due to be produced before court yesterday (10).
