If necessary: Fmr AG will be questioned on his 21/4 comments – Defence Secy

Everyone in the country is treated equally in the eyes of law and order, thus the CID will question former Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera about his comments regarding the Easter Sunday bombings in 2019 if needed, Defence Secretary Major (Rtd.) Kamal Gunaratna said.

In response to a question at a Press conference yesterday (9), he said that after the AG retires, he or she will become an ordinary citizen of the country. “The CID’s attention has also been drawn to what the previous AG has stated,” he said, adding that the CID will take necessary actions in the future.

While Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith’s remark on the Easter Sunday bombings is troubling, he noted that representatives from the Ministry and Police met with the bishops and reported the current state of the investigations, which the Cardinal was not present for.

He alleged that some are seeking to portray the Easter Sunday Bombings as a plan to destabilise President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

At the same news conference, the IGP stated that once the investigation is initiated, no one will be evaluated based on their political connections, but only on whether or not they are telling the truth.
